Bob Marley had tijdens de jaren 70 over de hele wereld enorme reggaehits, als No Woman, No Cry en I Shot the Sheriff. Hij bracht bekende reggaealbums uit als Exodus en Uprising. Samen met zijn vrouw Rita Marley is hij het symbool voor de rastafari geloofsbeweging.

Plot:
De documentaire van bijna twee en een half uur richt zich op het leven van een van de meest invloedrijke muzikanten van de twintigste eeuw: Robert Nesta Marley, beter bekend als Bob Marley. De in Jamaica geboren rastafari heeft bijna eigenhandig de reggaemuziek internationaal bekend gemaakt en maakte deel uit van de legendarische band The Wailers, met Bunny Livingston en Peter Tosh. Op 11 mei 1981 kwam hij door de gevolgen van een hersentumor (veroorzaakt door uitgezaaide kankercellen) om het leven.
