Die Reihe setzt sich aus umfangreichen Textanthologien, Handbüchern und Bildsammlungen zu Themen und Teilgebieten der Literatur, der Kunst, der Geistes- und der Sozialwissenschaften zusammen. Die Digitale Bibliothek versteht sich nicht als Konkurrenz zum gedruckten Buch. Im Gegenteil, sie will vielmehr die spezifischen, bislang kaum ausgeschöpften Möglichkeiten der elektronischen Erfassung und Verarbeitung von Texten und Abbildungen nutzen, um die Welt der Bücher neu zu erschlieÃ?en.
