Description:
The first of four documentaries highlighting the impact of
four black American performers on pop music in the
1980s gives some long-overdue recognition to the role of
Ms Jackson in paving the way for the likes of Rihanna
and Beyonc. Although claiming some of her later work is
cutting edge is over-egging it a bit. We get the story of
her struggle to crawl out from underneath the weight of
her brothers\' fame, and the competitive nature of her
relationship with Michael - who even intrudes here in a
throwaway section about how he broke MTV for black
acts. Coming from such a famous family, there is a wealth
of archive footage to revel in, but also insights from
producer Jimmy Jam and the woman herself
