Linda discovers nine corpses and a live baby girl locked in an abandoned container lorry. Her father assumes the driver fled when he realized his cargo of illegal immigrants had died. A photo leads to a convent, whose abbess - an evacuee herself as a child - has helped many refugees and believes the ends justify the means to give them better lives.

Wallander is adapted from the late Henning Mankell's Kurt Wallander novels, and comprises 32 films in all.
This 1st series of 13 films was produced in 2005 and 2006, with one taken directly from a novel and the remainder with new storylines suggested by Mankell. The BBC aired all 32 episodes of the Swedish television versions on BBC Four.
