War photographer, Robert Thuresson's work is being put on display in Ystad. American Sarah Lyell argues with the photographer before the exhibition and later is found dead, in possession of one of his photos. The case extends beyond Sweden as Wallander finds a motive for the death.

Wallander is adapted from the late Henning Mankell's Kurt Wallander novels, and comprises 32 films in all.
This 1st series of 13 films was produced in 2005 and 2006, with one taken directly from a novel and the remainder with new storylines suggested by Mankell. The BBC aired all 32 episodes of the Swedish television versions on BBC Four.
