St Petersburg, 1907. The young and carefree Natalia should be perfectly happy. She has a handsome little boy, a rich husband who allows her to live as she chooses and lovers who desire her. But a chance encounter with a stranger alters her peaceful life forever. Echoing Natalia's secret desire for independence, her husband is murdered that very same night.


I was very fortunate to have been able to record this movie from an international channel. It stars Sandrine Bonnaire and William Hurt, and was filmed in Russian and French.

Apparently the film was shown originally with hard-coded French subtitles for the Russian-language segments. When it was prepared for international viewing, English subtitles were added. They are easy to read when the spoken language is French, but the subtitler simply slapped the English over the French titles when the spoken language is Russian. I apologize for the sloppy result, but it is not my creation.

I have looked everywhere for a commercial copy of Confidences à un inconnu / Ispoved neznakomtsu, which I think is an outstanding film that should be available to people who love good movies.
