Douglas "Doug" Stanhope is an American stand-up comedian known for his abrasive, controversial comedy style and libertarian political views.

His approach to comedy has been likened by his fans and contemporaries to the works of Bill Hicks, George Carlin and Lenny Bruce. Stanhope mixes cringe comedy with political satire and grotesque imagery, the latter of which often leads to audience walkouts.

Many of Stanhope's colleagues, including Louis C.K., Sarah Silverman, and Ricky Gervais have praised Stanhope as one of the best living comedians. Much of the praise concerns the controversial nature of Stanhope's act, with many saying that his fearlessness on stage is unrivaled.


Word of Mouth is Doug Stanhope's first stand-up DVD. Recorded at the Velveeta Room in Austin, Texas on May 11th, 2002, and produced by Sacred Cow Productions.

It is very, VERY hard to find these days : it's not distributed anymore and used copies are scarce (to say the least).
