Madras Cafe is an upcoming Indian political spy thriller [4] film directed by Shoojit Sircar.[5][6] The main role of an Indian intelligence agent in the film is played by John Abraham,[1] while Nargis Fakhri, who is the female lead plays an international reporter. The film also deals with the subject of terrorism, and will be shot in India and Sri Lanka.[7][1] The film was earlier titled Jaffna named after the Sri Lankan town.[8] It is set to release on August 23.[9] The trailer was released with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag[10] on July 12, 2013.

The film is political spy thriller set against backdrop of the Sri Lankan Civil War of the 1990s. [4] Vikram Singh (John Abraham) is Indian Army special officer who is appointed by Indian intelligence agency RAW to conduct covert operations in Sri Lanka. [4] [11]As he journeys to an island at war, with the intention of disrupting a rebel group, he discover the larger issue. There he meets a journalist (Jaya)[12] who is there to reveal the truth about the civil war, and in the process uncovers a conspiracy.
